Hammers
Rotary hammering is a proven technique that offers all the advantages of cold forming.
Rotary hammers offer multiple possibilities for material deformation processes including:
- High degrees of deformation.
- Ability to machine pipes and solid profiles.
- Development of countless internal and external profiles.
- High precision with good surface finish quality.
- Increased strength and yield strength depending on the degree of deformation and the characteristics of the material used.
Description of available hammer models
- Rotating spindle: suitable for diameter reduction where rotation of the workpiece is not a problem.
- Rotating cage: suitable for making profiles of non-cylindrical section (e.g. chisels, polygons, etc.).
- Counter-rotating cage: like the rotating spindle but with control of the rotating workpiece.
- Die closing: in addition to radial oscillation, dies undergo a broader closing and opening movement. Insertion and removal of the workpiece takes place with the dies fully open. Closing the dies facilitates the formation of the profile within them. All die-closing machines can be used as the rotating spindle provided the dies remain closed.
Features and benefits
Costs are constantly on the rise and they have to be reduced. Rotary hammering brings significant material savings. Traditional machining on solids can be replaced by using pipes machined with the rotary hammering process. The advantage is that the finished part weighs less, resulting in improved mechanical characteristics (tensile strength, yield strength, breaking strength, etc.), and savings related to the modelling of the part (no material needs to be removed to obtain the desired shapes). The variety of shapes obtainable with rotary hammering does not exclude the use of other technologies in cases where it is necessary to produce parts with absolute precision. S.A.M.IND lines can integrate different types of machining (drilling, threading, turning, grinding, etc.) to the rotary hammering process and provide a series of process controls where necessary to guarantee the best quality.
